Water is life itself, indispensable to basic survival, free flowing, yet plentiful to some and inaccessible to millions. It surprises many people that Bangalore has grown to become such a huge metropolis without having any water source like river or sea nearby. It seems this is the largest city of its size in the world, without a water body. However history tells us that cities and civilizations have always been built on the banks of rivers. But then Bangalore was fortunate enough have a large number of lakes to feed its ever growing needs.

Bangalore actually had flowing water bodies and they are now dead. Arkavathi and Kumudvathi are two rivers originating from Nandi and Shivaganga hills, which used to play a vital role in Bangalore’s eco-system.These two merge at Tippa Gondanahalli Reservoir which was the main water source for our city before Cauvery river supply.

This river rejuvenation covers 278 villages. Volunteers from all over Bangalore are working every Sunday across 10 villages by planting saplings, cleaning up Kalyanis, and building Boulder checks.

What do we do for River Rejuvenation?
