Saving Yezidis from Slavery and Genocide of the Islamic State: A Race Against Time

Dec 18, 2014

On the fateful day of Aug 3rd, 2014 a the Yezidi community faced the beginning of yet another onslaught at the hands of the Islamic State (IS). Since then several thousands of men, women and children have been killed and about 8,000 Yezidi women and girls have been pushed in sexual slavery. Several thousands of families remain stranded on the Sinjar mountain top.

Particular, for the people on the mountain top the odds are very difficult. With the winters setting in they are facing a very challenging situation in coming few months.

IAHV has been actively involved in the relief effort from very early on, and have already helped airdrop relief material worth several thousands of dollars. The founder of IAHV, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar personally visited the relief camps to oversee the relief work. “It is so painful to see, how in this 21st century, there are people who are trying to drag the civilization to the dark ages.”, he said. (See here.)

We, the citizens of the world, have to take notice and reach out with a helping hand to the Yezidi community.

Please join this effort to learn about the Yezidi community, their culture, history and heritage.  Leaders of several faiths and organizations will be present.
