Nouvelle Vie Haiti empowers, educates and supports Haitian youth as leaders to revitalize Haiti’s spiritual, economic and environmental strength and abundance.
Once a Caribbean paradise, Haiti is now in one of the worst economic, environmental, and social crises the world has ever witnessed. The 4th poorest country in the world, Haiti is 98% deforested, which leads to soil erosion, flooding, and a breakdown of natural food systems. Poverty, lack of educational opportunities and political corruption have left 70% of Haiti’s population, its youth, hopeless and desperate.
Nouvelle Vie Haiti is creating a generation of inspired Haitian leaders committed to serving society, strengthening the economy, and creating an abundant environment. The corner stone of Nouvelle Vie Haiti is the Youth Leadership Training Program (YLTP). Through breathing techniques, meditation, discussions, and processes, the YLTP bring students past victimhood, blame, and hopelessness into inspiration, responsibility, and action. Our students develop clarity, connectedness, and commitment. They can see the root causes of the challenges their communities face, and, with calmness and hope, can generate and act upon solutions.
Following the YLTP, graduates put their leadership training into action, through sustainable social, agricultural, and micro-enterprise development projects that are restoring Haiti's ravaged environment and building prosperity.
Accomplishments to date (since October 2007)
350 YLTP graduates (Youth Leaders)
60 Permaculture graduates
30 Environmental Entrepreneurship graduates
2500 Breath Water Sound participants, 1050 for victims of 2008 Hurricanes
150 peer sexuality workshop participants since October 2009
2 youth-led street cleaning campaigns with 100 youth total, removing 10km of trash weekly from main market streets
150 street children attend weekly recreational and mentoring program
5 truckloads of food and supplies from Miami-Dade school children to distributed to 300 victims of Hurricanes 2008
Every summer Nouvelle Vie Haiti invites volunteers from across the world to join us in Haiti, to partner with our Haitian leaders and contribute meaningfully to Haiti's transformation.
Nouvelle Vie Haiti is run almost entirely by volunteers and operates with negligible overhead. To train the youth and provide them with materials to run their sustainable agriculture and micro-enterprises this summer, we need to raise $75,000.
Your tax-deductible donation will help support youth lift Haiti out of its social, environmental and economic crisis. You can donate to Nouvelle Vie Haiti online (Select Project Haiti). A suggested donation is 1% of your salary.
