Nepal Earthquake Relief

On April 25, 2015, a devastating earthquake has occurred in Nepal. More than 8,000 people died, 16,000 people injured, 5,00,000 houses & buildings destroyed and 2,70,000 houses & buildings partially damaged. (Reference: http://drrportal.gov.np).

Pursuant to the natural tragedy, the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) in partnership with the Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) established a Disaster Relief Fund to provide humanitarian assistance for the victims of the Earthquake. More than 8000 volunteers are working in ground zero in 12 out of 13 major impacted districts of Nepal covering 103 Municipality/VDC of Nepal to provide Immediate Relief and Trauma Relief. These districts are Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktpur, Dolkha, Shindupalchwok, Ramechhap, Okheldhunga, Gorkha, Kavre, Dhading, Lamjung and Nuwakot.

Our Immediate Response (Within a month):

  • Distributed Relief Materials (Food, Medicine, Tents, Blankets, etc) to 1,50,000 victims worth INR 4Cr.
  • Conducted more than 225 Trauma Relief Workshop benefited 30,000 victims worth INR 3Cr.
  • More than 8000 volunteers worked in ground zero in 12 out of 13 major impacted districts of Nepal worth INR 16Cr.

Mid/Short Term Rehabilitation Plan:

  • Build 13 Earthquake and Flood Proof Communities Living centers in 13 most impacted districts of Nepal and use them for shelters for needy and to impart vocational skills.
  • Build 300 temporary shelters for needy in selected village.
  • Train 1000 Youth of the region to select 300 Employed Youth Leaders who would support infrastructure building and conduct Trauma Relief workshops.
  • Conduct 5000 Trauma Relief Workshop covering 1.5 million impacted populations.

Local AOLF and IAHV volunteers are starting Mid/Short Term Rehabilitation Program. Our Trauma Relief Workshops and long-term survivor rehabilitation programs will continue to supplement all relief efforts.

Your contributions will provide much needed survivors deal with the disaster’s aftermath through our Trauma Relief Workshop, Short/Mid Term Rehabilitation and Long Term Rehabilitation programs.

  • Volunteers conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at our center & Music School Center where people came for shelter post earthquake shock benefited 250 people.
  • A team of volunteers left to Sindhupalchowk District for relief operation. The epicenter of the earthquake was at this District. Volunteers with high morale continued their relief work and distributed Relief Materials and conducted Trauma Relief Workhop and came back safley.

  • Volunteers distributed Relief materials, Tents and Blankets, provided Medical Relief and conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at different part of Lalitpur, Ramechhap, Nuwakot, Dhading districts of Nepal.
  • IAHV Director conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at Himal Power Limited to over 50 employees and families. They had not been able to sleep well ever since the earthquake. They all felt relaxed and at ease after the session.
  • A team of volunteers conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at Kanjirowa College, Kathmandu and another team had been conducting 3 days Nava Chetana and Trauma Relief Workshop at Pepsi Cola, Kathmandu.

  • The Prince of Bahrain in Partnership with IAHV-AOL distributed Tents, Food, Water & Blankets at Maternity Hospital, Patan Hospital & Basantapur in Kathmandu.
  • IAHV Director conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at Maternity Hospital, Patan Hospital & Basantapur in Kathmandu.
  • Volunteers distributed Relief Materials and conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at Nuwakot, Dolakha, Kavre & Dhading districts of Nepal.
  • Dispatched 300 Tents, 800 Blankets & Relief Materials to Dolakha district of Nepal.

  • Volunteers distributed Water, Food items, Sanitation Materials, Blankets & Tents, Provided Medical Relief and conducted Trauma Relief Workshop at different parts of Sindhupalchow, Kavre, Dhading and Kathmandu districts of Nepal.
  • Prince of Bahrain visited our center in Nepal. He said IAHV-AOL is very high in morale and values. That is why they have partnered with us for Nepal Earthquake Relief.
  • Today we received call to conduct Trauma Relief Workshops from different areas of Bhaktapur, Katunje VDC and Basantpur. Volunteers rushed immediately & conducted Trauma Relief workshop.

  • IAHV Director Neeraj Kohli conducted Trauma Relief Workshop for Secretary of the Ministry and 120 staff of Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal.
  • IAHV Director conducted Trauma Relief Workshop for AIG and 100 inspectors and sub-inspectors.
  • IAHV Director conducted Trauma Relief workshop for 60 Nurses, Doctors and team of Kirtipur Hospital, Nepal.
  • Volunteers distributed Water, Food & Tent, provided Medical Relief, conducted Trauma Relief workshop at different parts of Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk and Kavre districts of Nepal

  • Volunteers distributed Relief Materials & Tents, Provided Medical Relief, Conducted Trauma Relief Workshops in more than 10 districts of Nepal.
  • Volunteers reached Lamosanghu & Sindhupalchowk districts of Nepal. These are most affected & highest rates of casualties happened in Earthquake. Volunteers distributed Tents, Foods and Medicines to 100 families and conducted Trauma Relief workshop.

  • IAHV Director Neeraj Kohli conducted Trauma Relief program for AIG, DIG and top 50 higher level of police officers of Nepal at Police Headquarter.
  • Volunteers distributed Tents, Medicines and Food supplies and conducted Trauma relief Workshop at Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu & Nuwakot districts of Nepal.
  • A truck load of tent arrived from Gorakhpur, India contained 41 big rolls of tent fabric. We quickly started stitching right away.

Updates from April 30

  • IAHV-Art of Living Volunteers distributed Relief materials, provided Medical Relief & conducted Trauma Relief workshop at Bhaktapur, Goldhunga, Sankhu & Khokana in Nepal.
  • Surat Chapter from Gujarat has sent 615 Kgs of Food packets. All together 2000 food packets with each packet containing 5-7 theplas, 3-4 pieces Gor Papdi & 200 gm Bhusa Farsan. Along with that 200 more packets of theplas contain around 5 to 10 in each packet. So approximately 20000 theplas, 30 kg Dry Nashta (Khakhra,Biscuits,Ganthiya, etc).
  • Trauma relief sessions have begun at multiple locations in Kathmandu, and also at Civil Hospital, New Baneshwor.

Updates from April 29

  • The Vadodara chapter from Gujarat contributed 500 blankets for the Nepal relief work.
  • A truckload of essential items including ORS, biscuits, water, medicines, blankets and face masks was dispatched from Siliguri, West Bengal.

Updates from April 28

  • Food to affected persons is being provided 24 hours. Approximately 6000-7000 people have been given meals so far.
  • A blood donation camp has been started at The Art of Living Center in Raxaul, Bihar with the help of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Indo Nepal Chamber of Commerce. Upto 2 pm, around 50 people had donated blood.
  • The Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal Army visited The Art of Living center in Raxaul, Bihar.
  • At the Bhaktapur district, the Art of Living volunteers provided food, medical support to affected persons.
  • Truckloads of food and water were dispatched from Siliguri, West Bengal on April 27.

Updates from April 26-27

  • The Art of Living center has been converted into a shelter camp that is hosting people affected by the earthquake that struck Nepal.
  • Volunteers of The Art of Living – Nepal distributed cooked food to residents of Tundikhel in Nepal.
  • Around 300 people were taking shelter in the New Baneshwor Center of The Art of Living – Nepal.
  • The Art of Living volunteers also distributed food to victims and relatives at Civil Hospital.
